BRAC Bank raises Tk 1.06m from marathon

Mr. Benazir Ahmed, Director General, Rapid Action Battalion was present as the Chief Guest at the annual marathon for humanity at Hatirjheel. Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, Management Committee Members of BRAC Bank and its subsidiaries were also present.  
Mili Biswas PPM, Additional Commissioner (Traffic), Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Dr. Samanta Lal Sen of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Suinu Pru Marma, Captain, National Women Football Team, were also present.
For the first time since its inception in 2011, the bank has invited members from different echelons of society - such as guests from embassies, other banks, multinational companies and international development entities to participate in the mini marathon. This is the first such marathon initiative by a bank in the country and unique in serving the humanity.
The marathon started at 7:00 a.m. in the morning. A total of 4,000 employees from BRAC Bank participated in the marathon that started from Police Plaza Point of Hatirjheel Point and ended at the same point covering 5.6km.
On the occasion, the employees raised a fund of more than Tk. 1.06 million, and the company doubled it to Tk. 2.12 million from its own fund.
BRAC Bank donated Tk. 1 million to Subarta Trust that works for the welfare and healthcare of old-aged people of the country. After the marathon, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, handed over the cheque to Selina Akhtar, General Secretary and CEO, Subarta Trust.   
Earlier this winter, a portion of the fund was utilized to distribute blankets to cold affected people in 3 Northern districts. Some 5,700 blankets and 3,000 warm clothes were distributed among underprivileged people in November, 2014 well ahead of winter.  
In this memorable event, Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Managing Director & CEO, BRAC Bank Limited, said, "As a follower of 3P Philosophy - People, Planet and Profit, CSR is embedded in DNA of the bank. We involve our staff in social works to make the program sustainable. We are encouraged to see passion in our staff to contribute to society."
"This year we are inviting guests to take part in the run that we believe will take the annual marathon to newer height. We strongly believe together we can make a difference in helping the humanity. Today's event marks a great start to the New Year with this noble initiative," he added.
