British envoy for boosting trade ties with Bangladesh

British High Commissioner in Bangladesh Robert W Gibson has said Bangladesh is a country full of potential and opportunities and emphasised strengthening business ties through finding right partners here.

"I firmly believe Bangladesh is a country full of potential and opportunities. There're of course challenges, too," he told a reception at his residence on Sunday welcoming the visiting UK trade delegation from Welsh, reports UNB.

A business delegation from Wales-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (WBCC) arrived in Dhaka on the day to drive forward business relations between Wales and Bangladesh in the fields of 'knowledge businesses and knowledge transfer'.

Delegation leader and chair of the WBCC Dilabor A Hussain, WBCC Secretary General Mahbub Noor and Deputy Director of Trade and Inward Investment for the Department of Economy, Welsh Government, Mike Hnyda also spoke on the occasion.

The British envoy said the UK is one of the largest traditional investors in Bangladesh and there is very vibrant business group investing and operating in Bangladesh very successfully.

He said the UK's engagement with Bangladesh is now in all areas, including business, government, law, innovations, technology and sports. "We're supporting Bangladesh to achieve the middle income status."

Mr Gibson said he is very confident that this trade mission will bring fruitful new dimensions in creasing business relationship with the right partners in Bangladesh.

He also mentioned that Wales and the UK are world leaders in many knowledge-based fields and he is certain that exciting future collaboration will emerge as part of this mission.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, President of Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Hossain Khaled, other business leaders and senior officials of the British High Commission were present on the occasion.
