The Bangladesh Restau-rant Owners Association (BROA) placed its nine-point demands that include resolving lack of coordination among the government entities concerned to minimise hassles of the sector insiders.

The platform also expressed its concern over interference of and fines imposed by different departments, which cause severe loss to their business.

The association placed its demands in a press briefing - held at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) on Tuesday, said a release.

BROA Secretary General Imran Hasan read out the written demands.

It expressed fear for facing random visits by law-enforcers during the Ramadan.

He demanded a one-stop service for the government's vigilance through close coordination among the organisations concerned.

BROA also urged the media to play a responsible role to overcome the crisis - caused by negative publicity regarding the restaurant sector.

The association made demand to reduce the existing VAT and taxes for the sector to meet the basic needs of workers, labourers, day-laborers, small and medium restaurants, and street food vendors.

Imran Hasan said gas crisis has also been a concern for the restaurant operators, as they are getting insufficient gas supply compared to their requirement.

BROA also requested all restaurant owners to maintain sacredness of the Ramadan, to start from March 23, and conduct restaurant business following the government's health guidelines as well as making rational profit.
