CHATTOGRAM: The long-delayed election to Bangladesh Ship Breakers and Recyclers Association (BSBRA) for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 terms will be held today (Saturday), at Halda Business Centre of the Radisson Blu Chattogram, following a series of court orders that cleared the way for voting.

According to a notice issued by the BSBRA Election Board, voting for two vice-president posts and seven executive committee member positions will take place from 9:00am to 1:00pm. The election process had been suspended after a legal dispute over the candidacy of ship recycling entrepreneur Amzad Hossain Chowdhury.

On June 01, the High Court issued an interim order concerning the BSBRA election. Subsequently, the Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division stayed the High Court order on 3 June. Later, on 8 June, the Appellate Division's full bench issued an order paving the way for the election to resume. Following the latest developments, the Election Board announced a revised schedule and confirmed that the election would be held today as planned. As a result of the legal proceedings, Amzad Chowdhury is no longer in the contest, clearing the way for the election process to proceed without further legal hurdles. In the absence of any competing nomination for the president's post, PHP Family Vice Chairman Mohammad Mohsin is set to be elected unopposed.

The Election Board said the polls would be conducted in accordance with the Trade Organization Rules 2025, issued through SRO No. 144 on 19 May 2025.
