BSTI destroys 5,130 non-food grade water jars

Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) surveillance team seizing filthy, nonfood grade drinking water jars from unauthorised water manufacturing plants before destroying the containers at different places in the city on Sunday


A surveillance team of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI), Dhaka, led by Deputy Director (CM) Md. Nurul Islam, conducted drives against unauthorised and unscrupulous businesses at 11 different places in the capital on Sunday.
The team, assisted by members of law enforcement agencies, seized 5,130 filthy and non-food grade drinking water jars from 25 businesses, including hotels, restaurants and roadside tea stalls, and destroyed the containers.
Besides, the BSTI team also conducted drives against unlicensed and illegal drinking water manufacturing plants and bottling units at Swarighat, Nazira Bazar and Killer More Bazar, and cut water supply lines to the factories.
The team also stopped drinking water production at the plants and put those under lock and keys.
BSTI's two assistant directors and seven field officers took part in the drives, said a statement.
