Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and Dhaka district administration will jointly conduct four mobile courts every day in the capital to check the food adulteration during the Ramadan, reports BSS.
Minister for Industries Amir Hossain Amu saidthis at a press briefing on the special initiative of BSTI to control food adulteration during the holy Ramadan at his ministry Thursday.
"The BSTI will carry out mobile court drive in the capital during the month of Ramadan to ensure the food and drinks are free from adulteration", said the minister.
Besides, drives against adulteration will also be conducted throughout the country by the regional offices of BSTI, Mr Amu said.
High officials from the Ministry and BSTI including Industries Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, Director-General of BSTI Ikramul Haq and Additional Secretary Susen Chandra Das attended the briefing.
The mobile team will check the foods and juices sold on the streets, said the minister.
The mobile courts would focus on some particular food items- puffed rice (muri), dates, banana, soft drink powder, fruit juice, edible oil, ghee, noodles, laccha semai, water and dextrose monohydrate.
Samples of 30 food items consumed mostly during the Iftar and Sehri have already been collected from the market and sent for 'quality test', he said, adding that this process would continue.
Talking about the BSTI activities on checking the food adulteration, the industries minister said "BSTI conducted 755 mobile courts and filed 1,105 cases during the last eleven and a half months. "All the cases have been disposed of by this time", the minister added.
