The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) on Wednesday approved procurement of 100,000 tonnes of fertiliser, 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid, and 73,000 pieces of SPC poles.
Presided over by Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali, a meeting of the committee at the conference room of the cabinet division at Bangladesh secretariat approved the purchase proposals by the authorities concerned.
According to documents forwarded by the finance ministry officials, the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) would buy 40,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser from MA'ADEN, Saudi Arabia at a cost of Tk 2.596 billion. Each tonne of the fertiliser will cost US$550.
The Ministry of Industries (MoI) will procure 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser from KAFCO by spending Tk 1.169 billion ($330.50 per tonne).
The MoI will also buy 30,000 metric tonnes of bulk granular urea fertiliser from Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd, UAE at a cost of Tk 1.214 billion ($343.17 per tonne).
The Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) will buy 10,000 tonnes of phosphoric acid from Guangxi Pengyue Eco-Technology Co Ltd, China at a price of Tk 666.9 million ($570 per tonne).
The cabinet body also approved a proposal of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) to buy 24,300 SPC poles from Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Ltd. at a price of Tk 766.8 million.
The BREB will procure the electric poles from a joint venture of Charka SPC Poles Ltd, DADA Engineering Ltd, TSCO Power Limited, and Pasha Poles Ltd.
It will also buy 24,297 more SPC poles from a joint venture of Poles and Concrete Ltd, Contech Construction Ltd, Royel Green Products Ltd, and Sheltech Technology at a price of Tk 766.1 million.
The meeting further approved grid-integration of 2,000 solar-run irrigation pumps at a total cost of Tk 1.55 billion.
The finance minister also chaired another meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on the day that approved a proposal in principle for signing a deal with Fertiglobe Distribution Ltd, UAE to import fertiliser under government-to-government arrangements.
