Cabinet body okays oil lighter tanker purchase

The Cabinet Committee on Public Purchase on Wednesday approved five projects involving over Tk 3.78 billion (378 crore).

The projects include purchase of a crude oil lighter tanker at a cost of Tk 1.56 billion (156 crore).

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed presided over the meeting at the Cabinet Division.

Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Public Administration Minister Syed Asharaful Islam, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq, among others, were present.

Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman briefed reporters after the meeting at Bangladesh Secretariat.

Bangladesh Shipping Corporation (BSC) will purchase one old (not beyond 12 years old) 15,000-25,000 DW crude oil literage tanker at a cost of Tk 1.56 billion.  

Other projects that the committee approved include purchase of thermo-electric generator (TEG) and coating and wrapping materials for building Moheshkhali- Anowara gas transmission line being implemented by the Gas Transmission Company Ltd at a cost over Tk 48 million and purchase of pole at a cost of Tk 690 million for expansion of rural electrification of Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board in Barisal division.

Two other projects are purchase of consultancy service at a cost of Tk 292 million under the Small and Marginal Sized Farmers Agriculture Productivity Improvement and Diversification Financing Project (SMAP) and appointment of Institutional Strengthening and Project Management Consultant (ISPMC) for Flood and Riverbank Erosion Risk Management Investment Programme is being implemented by the Bangladesh Water Development Board at a cost of around Tk 1.02 billion.
