Campaign for Sustainable Rural Livelihoods (CSRL) has demanded of the authorities concerned to keep the agricultural products-laden vehicles out of the purview of blockade saying that the farmers are incurring massive losses following the present political unrest.
In a statement on Thursday, CS Karim, chairman, and Shormind Nilormi, general secretary, of the CSRL expressed concern over the present political violence being carried out on agricultural goods-laden vehicles.
They also urged the agitators to keep the vehicles free from their movement.
The leaders of the CSRL, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), also demanded of the government to ensure protection of the goods-laden vehicles to keep their transportation from rural areas to other districts uninterrupted.
They said the small and marginal farmers are playing a key role in developing the country's economy. They depend on seasonal crops to survive.
If they fail to realise production cost or market price, their livelihood will fall in a great danger, they added.
Although the production of vegetables and crops is very high this winter season, the farmers are not getting fair prices of their produce due to hartal and blockade, they observed.
The farmers in Pabna and Sirajganj districts are being forced to sell milk at a price which one-third of their production cost.
