Intellectual Property Association of Bangladesh (IPAB) on Sunday observed the 'World Intellectual Property Day 2014' with a call to keep artistic and creative works from being pirated.
The association organised a gathering on the Dhaka University (DU) campus to mount awareness among the people about the forthcoming dangers of the piracy to mark the day.
Addressing the crowded gathering, popular film star Anata Jalil said, investors are unwilling to spend big money in the country's film industry because of the fragile protection system.
"Of the total intellectual properties, film industry has major contribution; unfortunately, this industry frequently counts immense losses because of the piracy, depriving investors and the government from the desired revenue earnings," the film star said.
He called upon the students community to raise strong voice against the piracy that discourages the talented people to invest time and money for idea generation.
Mr Jalil also called upon the government to enact a strict law saving the country's intellectual properties.
Expressing solidarity, president of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) President Kazi Akram Uddin Ahmed called upon the government to take immediate action against the piracy.
"The government should take necessary measures to promote the promising sectors," the business leader said adding that the initiative will encourage talented people to engage themselves in the promising sectors.
