Call to use modern tech in commercial food processing

Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday urged private entrepreneurs for the proper use of modern technologies in commercial processing of food and preservation.

They made the call at a seminar on "Appropriate use of modern technologies to produce agro-processed products" at Daffodil International University in Dhaka.

Agro Products Business Promotion Council (APBPC), Ministry of Commerce (MoC) and Bangladesh Agro-Processors' Association (BAPA) jointly organised the programme. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yousuf Mahbubul Islam, Daffodil International University graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

While presenting the keynote paper, Md. Sazzat Hossain Sarker, Professor and Chairman of Department of Food Engineering and Technology of the university, described some modern technologies that may impact on food processing and preservation, it said.

He also explained the effects of food processing, food and beverage encapsulation, fortification and drying on the nutritional value of agro-processed products.

He also emphasised the importance on motivating private entrepreneurs about using modern technologies in commercial processing of food and pharmaceutical products.
