OTTAWA, Oct 17 (AFP): Canada's inflation rate edged lower to 3.8 per cent in September-down from 4.0 per cent in the previous month amid broad-based price deceleration-the government statistical agency said on Tuesday.

Prices for groceries continued to rise, according to Statistics Canada, but at a slower pace for many items including meat, dairy, coffee and tea.

That was partly offset by a 7.5 per cent year-over-year increase in gasoline prices, the agency added.
