OTTAWA, Mar 8 : The Canadian economy unexpectedly shed 7,000 jobs in February as unemployment held steady at 7.0 per cent, the government's statistics agency said Friday. "There has been little overall employment growth in Canada since August 2013," Statistics Canada said. Analysts had forecast the net creation of 19,000 jobs. The loss comes as the Canadian economy started the year on a positive note by adding 29,000 jobs in January, almost twice as many was expected, helping the unemployment rate fall to 7 per cent from 7.2 per cent in December. In February, there were 18,900 more full-time jobs than in January while the number of part-time jobs fell by 25,900. The overall employment rate held steady at 61.6 per cent. — AFP
