Dr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, Managing Director & CEO of NRBC Bank PLC, has said that building a cashless ecosystem in Bangladesh is not merely about technological advancement; it represents a fundamental transformation towards greater financial inclusion, good governance, transparency, and broader economic participation through digital payments.
He made the remarks while presenting a paper at the 12th International Sustainable Development Conference (SDC-2026), held in Bangkok, Thailand, says a press release.
Participating as a distinguished speaker at the three-day conference from July 15 to 17, Dr. Khan presented his paper titled "Smart Bangladesh in Action: Strengthening Financial Inclusion through a Cashless Ecosystem."
In his presentation, he highlighted the importance of developing a secure, efficient, and accessible digital payment ecosystem to accelerate Bangladesh's journey towards becoming a smart, technology-driven and inclusive nation.
Dr. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan emphasised that developing a cashless ecosystem is among the most effective and practical approaches to achieving this national vision.
This involves decreasing cash dependency by advancing secure, efficient, and accessible digital payment solutions. "In Bangladesh, the transition to digital payments goes beyond mere technology adoption," he explained.
"It represents a fundamental transformation in financial inclusion, governance practices, transparency, and broader economic participation."
