A three-day trade and investment exposition will be held in Canada this November with an eye to promoting Bangladesh as a potential investment destination for Canadian businesses and help boost bilateral trade.
The expo styled 'CBCCI Trade and Investment Expo 2023' will begin at an international convention centre in Toronto city on November 17.
The Canada-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CBCCI), the organiser of the expo, made the announcement at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Wednesday.
CBCCI executive vice-president Areef Rahman, media and communications director Shakil Bin Mushtaq and Bangladesh country director Farzana Ali were present at the briefing.
The trade show is the first of its kind to promote Bangladeshi business climate in Canada.
Briefing the media, Mr Rahman said the event is to establish a direct link with potential buyers and importers of Bangladeshi products to enter the Canadian market.
It will also highlight the investment potential of Canada in Bangladesh, according to him.
"Currently, the bilateral trade between the two countries is in favour of Canada," he said, highlighting prospects of different domestic sectors to enter Canadian and other North American markets.
According to Mr Rahman, business leaders and officials from different North American missions are expected to attend the programme, which will act as a matchmaking platform.
Different public-private entities like the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority, Export Promotion Bureau, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services are affiliated with the event.
Mr Mushtaq said an estimated 70 stalls would be set up there by Bangladeshi businesses and organisations representing different sectors.
"More than 50 stalls have already been booked by different organisations, including several banks and non-bank financial institutions," he disclosed.
Bangladesh's leather, ICT, pharma, jute and tourism sectors will be promoted in the expo.
There will be series of seminars and matchmaking sessions to help businesses explore expanding opportunities, according to Mr Mushtaq.
The Financial Express (FE) is the media partner of the CBCCI event.
