CHITTAGONG, Nov 27: Senior official of Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) of Tokyo Yumiko Ando exchanged views with Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) president Mahbubul Alam at the latter's office in the port-city on Wednesday (Nov 26).
CCCI former president MA Latif MP, CCCI vice-president Syed Jamal Ahmed, former president of Chittagong AOTS Alumni Association Md Firoz Shah, and JETRO Dhaka office manager SM Shariful Islam were present at that time.
MA Latif MP said Japan is the chief development associate of Bangladesh's economic advancement. He emphasised turning local workforce into skilled human resources, and asked CCCI and the vocational training institute, set up in his constituency, to employ Japanese teachers for attracting students to learn Japanese language and culture.
The CCCI president said Japan and Bangladesh have a long-standing close economic relation, and Japan's contribution to the country's socio-economic development is undeniable.
Terming the private sector as the engine of national economic growth he sought all-out cooperation of JETRO for development of the private sector through employment generation.
He also apprised the JETRO official of the proposed specialized economic zone (SEZ) for the Japanese investors in Chittagong, and said its land allocation has already been made.
Syed Jamal Ahmed hoped that bilateral trade and economic relation of the countries would be further strengthened in the coming days.
Yumiko Ando said Bangladesh economy has made tremendous growth and become a roll-model. Special attention of the Japanese government is there for the well-being of Bangladesh.
He also said a number of Japanese students are being sent to Bangladesh for their internship, so that economic ties between the two countries get further strengthened. More Japanese internees and teachers will be sent to Bangladesh in future, he added.
