‘CCCI Japan Desk’ set up at WTC

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 07: Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) and Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) jointly set up a 'CCCI Japan Desk' in the port city on Tuesday.

The desk was set up at the World Trade Centre (WTC), aiming to strengthen trade and business relations between Bangladesh and Japan.

Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Ito Naoki inaugurated the desk as the chief guest.

Addressing the inaugural function, Ito Naoki said, "The long-time friendship of Japan and Bangladesh is an example of peace and prosperity. The export of Bangladesh to Japan has increased 13.4 per cent from July to October in the current year compared to the same period of last year during the Covid-19 pandemic. The economy of Bangladesh is growing, and per capita income of the people may increase up to US$ 3,000 within the next five years."

He said, "We are conducting a survey to invest at the Mirerswari Economic Zone and Matarbari projects. I hope Japan will invest in Chattogram."

He hoped that CCCI Japan Desk will play a positive role.

The deep sea port of Matarbari and Big B flagship programmes are examples of the economic-friendship between Japan and Bangladesh, he mentioned.

He reiterated that Japan will always extend assistance to Bangladesh for its development.

Addressing the function, CCCI President Mahbubul Alam stressed the need for sharing knowledge and education with Japan for boosting trade ties.

Among others, CCCI Senior Vice President Tarafdar Md Ruhul Amin, Vice-president Sayed Hossain Tanvir, Chief Representative of JICA Hayakawa Yuho, Representative of JETRO to Bangladesh and President of JBCCI Yuji Ando, President of Japanese Commerce and Industries Association Hikari Kawai, President of Japan Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry Asif A Chowdhury, Advisor Salahuddin Kasem Khan, Secretary General Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan, and Leagal Councilor of Japan Desk Barrister Mithi Sanjana also addressed the function.
