CCCI urges Tanzania to set up consulate in Chittagong

CHITTAGONG, Feb 4: Tanzania has been urged to open a consulate in the port city to strengthen bilateral relation.

CCCI President Mahbubul Alam made the request while a Tanzanian delegation headed by Regional Commissioner of Dar Es Salaam region in Tanzania Saidi Meck Sadick visited the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) here today (Tuesday).

The CCCI president said as Muslim countries Bangladesh and Tanzania have deep-rooted and traditional relation.

 "Both the countries have huge economic potential and both the countries can be economically benefited by fully utilising the potentials," he said.

In reply, Mr Sadick said that Dar Es Salaam is an important city in the African continent and also a centre of communication of all eight countries of Africa.

He said that the city can play important role in opening up the commercial relationship with neighbouring countries in Africa.

Tanzania is a land of huge mineral resources having great potential for business in Bangladesh, he pointed out.

Besides, the country has a huge quantity of cotton and Bangladesh having readymade garment sector can be greatly benefited by importing cotton from Tanzania.

Among others, CCCI Vice President Syed Jamal Ahmed, Dr William Nshama, Director of Technical Services, Ministry of Works of Tanzania, Michael Schultz from JGH Marine, Denmark and Managing Director of Western Marine Shipyard Sakhawat Hossain were present during the visit.
