Revenue earnings by the office of the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCI&E) under the Ministry of Commerce attained 65.5 per cent of its target in the first six months of the current fiscal year (FY), official sources said.

Its revenue collection from sources including imports, exports and indenting registrations also increased by about 44.35 per cent in the July-December period, compared to the corresponding period in the last FY, according to the CCI&E data.

Sources concerned attributed the increase in revenue earnings to the hike in registration and renewal fees on imports, exports and indenting certificates against the backdrop of a significant rise in export and import of different products in the current FY 2013-14.

Sources said revenue collection of the CCI&E office would definitely exceed its non-tax revenue target set for the current FY, if the same trend persisted throughout the remaining months of the FY.

The CCI&E has set a target to collect over Tk 900 million in non-tax revenue in the current FY.

The office collected more than Tk 588.7 million in the July-December period. The figure was Tk 407.8 million in the same period in the last FY, according to the latest available data.

The revenue collection target for the current FY is 12.56 per cent higher than that of the last FY, according to official data.

"We are relentlessly working for making registration and renewal fees on imports and exports, indenting certificates and other procedures more business-friendly by introducing modern technologies, an official concerned said adding: "We are hopeful of achieving the target of doubling the collection in the next four years."
