CHITTAGONG, Oct 28 (BSS): The Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today for constructing a 5.2 kilometres long flyover from the city's Muradpur to Lalkhan Bazar area.
CDA Chairman Abdus Salam and Chairman of the China Bangladesh joint venture construction company 'Max-Renken JV' Golam Mohammad Alamgir signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organisations.
According to the MoU, a 5.2-kilometre long and 15-metre wide flyover will be constructed under the project at a cost of Tk 4.63 billion within two years.
The government of Bangladesh will provide Tk 4.37 billion while the rest Tk 250 million will be provided by the CDA.
The construction work of the flyover having a 1.7 kilometres long two-lane loop that would land on the city's Bayezid Bostami Road will start very soon and is expected to be completed by June, 2016.
With one end at Muradpur and the other at Lalkhan Bazar opposite to Jamiatul Falah Mosque, the flyover would ease traffic gridlocks at Muradpur, Sholoshahar, GEC and WASA intersections of the busy CDA Avenue, said the CDA chairman.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina laid the foundation stones for the construction of five flyovers at Bahoddarhat, Muradpur, Sholoshahar Gate Number 2, GEC and Kadamtali intersections in the port city on January 2, 2010.
