CEPZ to remain closed for three days from Saturday

CHATTOGRAM, Dec 26: Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) will remain closed for three days from December 29 due to some major emergency maintenance works in the electrical and electronic services system.
The supply of electricity to the country's largest export processing zone (EPZ) will be suspended on December 29 and 31 for the maintenance works while December 30 will remain closed due to the 11th national election.
CEPZ General Manager Khurshed Alam said the electric and electronic devices need emergency maintenance and servicing works.
So, the production will remain suspended in all 171 factories in the zone, he added. Over 0.2 million workers and employees are currently employed in the CEPZ.
The official said that the 11KV feeder line and 33/11 KV sub-station in the CEPZ power line needed urgent maintenance works which will be done from 6.00 am to 6.00 pm on December 29 and 31.
An owner of a factory in the CEPZ said the maintenance works in the electricity supply line is an emergency work.
Despite the production losses in the factories, we don't have any other option but to face it, he said.
Asked, GM Khurshed Alam said closure of the CEPZ has nothing to do with the upcoming election, excepting that every citizen will cast his or her vote on December 30.
