CHATTOGRAM, Sept 03: All 24 directors of the executive committee of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), including its President Omar Hazzaz, resigned on Monday.
The resignation letters were sent to Nazneen Kawshar Chowdhury, director general (Trade Organisation Wing) of the commerce ministry.
Along with the resignation letters, a request was made to her for the appointment of an interim administrator to oversee the Chamber during this transitional period.
"Respecting the demands of respected businessmen and members, all the directors of the current board have submitted their resignations in order to ensure uninterrupted operation of the traditional chamber, and especially to cooperate in organising a fair and impartial election in the future," Omar Hajjaz told the Financial Express.
The board of directors of CCCI has resigned in response to growing unrest and mounting demands from Chattogram's business community. They alleged that the committee was formed illegally and without a proper election.
The CCCI leaders who resigned are its president Omar Hazzaz, Senior Vice-President Tarafdar Md Ruhul Amin, Vice President Raisa Mahbub and directors Sayed Mohammed Tanvir, A K M Akter Hossain, Ahid Seraj Chowdhury Swapon, Jahirul Islam Chowdhury Alamgir, Anjan Shekhor Das, Md Rakibur Rahman Tutul, Mahfujul Haque Shah, Benjir Chowdhury Nishan, Md Alamgir Parvej, Najmul Karim Chowdhury Sharon, Iftekhar Hossain, Gouhar Seraj Jamil, Abu Sufian Chowdhury, Mahbubul Haque, Akter Parvej, Md Rejaul Karim Azad, Mohammed Adnanul Islam, Md Monir Uddin, Akhtar Uddin Mahmud, Mohammed Sajjad Un Newaj and Omar Muktadir.
