‘CMP to stop extortion during Ramadan’

CHATTOGRAM, Apr 30: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) chief has sounded warnings to the extortionists, toll collectors ahead of Ramadan, saying the law enforcers will come down heavy on them in the city during the holy month.

"Police will stop all sorts of extortion and illegal toll collection from all markets in the port city during Ramadan," CMP Commissioner Mahbubur Rahman said on Tuesday.

He also cautioned police officers that they will be booked if any allegation of negligence of duty in dealing with the cases is brought against them and proved during this month.

"If any incident of toll collection or extortion takes place in any markets in the port city, the Officers in Charge (OC) of the concerned thana will be liable for this," he said.

The CMP chief was speaking at a meeting with the leaders of the business community, owners of shops, shopping malls and markets, and leaders of transport sectors at his office in the south-western city.
