After a hike during the month of Ramadan, prices of vegetables and meat began to decrease as rice price remained stable on Friday, traders said.
Cucumber, tomato, green chili, brinjal and red meat prices shot up during the month of Ramadan, which have started declining slightly.
Most of the kitchen markets in the capital witnessed an 'insignificant transactions' due mainly to poor presence of customers there as a large portion of city dwellers is yet to return to the capital after celebrating the Eid-ul- Fitr.
Traders said the volume of sales went down by nearly 50 per cent on the day compared with other normal days.
"I had sold vegetables worth Tk 5,000 during normal time. It is just Tk 1,500 till 5:00 pm today (Friday)," Basir Mollah, a trader at Hatirpool Bazar, told the FE.
Visiting different kitchen markets, the FE correspondent found that most of the traders were passing idle time due mainly to the thin presence of customers.
On Friday, a kg of brinjal was sold between Tk 55 and Tk 60, which was Tk 70 and Tk 80 during Ramadan. Green Chili was sold at Tk 80 and Tk 100, which was sold between Tk 110 and Tk 120 during the month of fasting. Cucumber was sold at Tk 30-Tk 35, which was selling at Tk 40- Tk 50 during Ramadan. Tomato was sold at Tk 80 on the day which was sold between Tk 90 and Tk 100 during Ramadan. Carrot was sold at Tk 50 and Tk 60 on the day, which was sold between Tk 70 and Tk 80 during Ramadan.
A kg of potato was sold between Tk 22 and Tk 25, green papaya at Tk 25 and Tk 30 on the day which was same during Ramadan.
A kg of beef was sold at Tk 280 to Tk 290 on the day which was between Tk 300 and Tk 320 during Ramadan. Mutton was sold at Tk 450, which was Tk 480 during the month of fasting.
Broiler chicken was sold at Tk 150 to Tk 160 per kg, which was between 165 and Tk 170.
A pair of hilsha fish, depending on the size, were sold at Tk 600-Tk 100.
A kg of katla fish was sold at 280 to Tk 300 while koi fish at Tk 250 and Tk 350 and silver carp at Tk 140 and Tk 150.
Coarse variety of rice was sold at Tk 35 while minicate and nazirshail were between Tk 45 and Tk 55 respectively.
