Complete Karnaphuli embankment protection project: JS body

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Water Resources Ministry on Sunday asked the authorities concerned to complete the Karnaphuli River Embankment Protection Project before the next monsoon sets in, reports UNB.
The parliamentary body came up with the recommendation at its 7th meeting held at Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban with its chairman Ramesh Chandra Sen in the chair.
The meeting discussed the progress of work on the Karnaphuli project being carried out on its both banks in Boalkhali and Raozan upazilas of Chittagong.
The committee also asked the authorities concerned to complete the Brahmaputra River Embankment Protection Project in Chilmari and Olipur upazilas of Kurigram district, identifying the points vulnerable to erosion.
The meeting also recommended shifting the Haor Board to the new building of the Water Resources Ministry constructed in Sunamganj.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Water Resources Minister Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud and its members M Nazrul Islam and AKM Fazlul Haque.
