Complete power sector projects on time : JS body

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Assurances Sunday reviewed progress in the implementation of different projects under the ministry for power, energy and mineral resources and recommended completing the projects within the stipulated time, reports BSS.

The committee made the recommendation at its 13th meeting at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Kazi Keramat Ali presiding, said a JS press release.

Committee members Advocate Rahamat Ali, M Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, M Abdul Mazid Khan and Mir Mostak Ahmed attended the meeting.

The meeting asked all concerned to remain alert about the contractors who collected money from people and cheated them over power supply in rural areas.

The meeting was told that 70 new power stations with a production capacity of 5637 megawatt have been set up during the tenure of the present Awami League Government, raising the country's total power generation capacity to 11265 MW.

The meeting was informed that 16 pledges, out of 27 made by Prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the 9th parliament and 10th parliament so far, have been implemented. Eight more projects are under implementation.
