CHATTOGRAM, Sep 01: People with skills in science and technology are key to achieving sustainable development.
Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Muhibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel said this while speaking as the chief guest at a function, organised to celebrate the 17th university day of the Chattogram University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) on Sunday.
He said Bangladesh has been transforming from an agro-based economy to industry-based one.
"We need to modify our education system for (an) industrial production-based economy now," he said.
He said the fourth industrial revolution is going on. The engineering and technology universities of Bangladesh are playing a great role for the development of the country through providing higher education (to their students), he mentioned.
As the country is marching forward to become an industry-based economy, the science and technology universities should be capable of creating persons enlightened with the knowledge required to achieve this goal, said Nowfel.
"The science and technology universities of the countr should create new ideas by their large-scale researches. They should maintain relations with industries and cooperate with them to improvve their research for attainining new knowledge," he viewed.
He urged the students to keep contributing to the country's development with dedication and spirit of professionalism.
University Grant Commission (UGC) member Professor Dr Md Sazzad Hossain Vice Chancellor of CUET Professor Dr Rafiqul Alam were present as special guests.
