Ctg admin moves to monitor mkt ahead of Ramadan

CHATTOGRAM: The Chattogram district administration has taken steps to monitor the commodity market ahead of Ramadan.
As part of the move, the district authorities have already formed a Market Monitoring Cell to control the prices of essentials during the holy month when the Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset. Under the cell, a total of 40 teams will work to fight the unauthorised price hike of daily commodities.
The Cell has called upon the traders to sell the essentials as per the prices fixed during a recent joint meeting between Chattogram deputy commissioner (DC) and leaders of different trader associations.
Meanwhile, the district authorities started conducting mobile courts at the port city markets from Wednesday - the drive will continue throughout Ramadan.
Executive Magistrate of Chattogram district administration Omar Faruk said, "Some dishonest businessmen usually increase the prices of essentials during the month of Ramadan. We will take actions against any such moves."
Urging the businessmen to keep the prices of essentials within the reach of common people, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury said, "CCC will conduct two mobile courts in Ramadan to control prices of essentials. These courts will be run alongside other mobile courts of the district administration."
Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) also held three separate meetings with trader associations last week. In the meetings, CMP Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy urged the traders not to increase the commodity prices in Ramadan.
