CHATTOGRAM, Mar 22: The Chittagong International Trade Fair (CITF) has been extended and will now run until Tuesday this week at the Polo Grounds in the city.

The decision to extend the month-long fair, which began on February 15, was announced by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) -- the fair's organiser.

At a ceremony on Thursday, certificates and awards were presented to businesses participating in the fair.

However, shopkeepers at different shopping malls in the port city, such as New Market, Reazuddin Bazar, Lalkhan Bazar and Agrabad, have expressed dissatisfaction with the extension.

They argued the extended fair is hindering their Eid sales.

The trade fair ceremony was addressed by Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury as the chief guest. President of CCCI Omar Hazzaz chaired the function.

Other attendees included Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Md Tofail Islam; Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Krishna Pada Roy; CCCI Vice President Raisa Mahbub; CCCI Director and CITF-2024 Committee Chairman AKM Akhter Hossain; and representatives of participating ventures.

During the ceremony, guests awarded prizes to the best pavilions, stalls and creative activity organisations participating in the fair. TK Group took first place in the premier pavilion category, followed by Abul Khair Milk Products Ltd and New Zealand Dairy Products Bangladesh Ltd in second and third place, respectively.

Welberg, Wakaru and Raj Textile (Raj Lungi) won first, second and third place for stalls, while the Bidyanondo Foundation received the award for the best creative activities.
