CHOTTAGRAM, Apr 06: As the Eid-ul-Fitr is around the corner, the markets in port city of Chottagram are abuzz with customers passing busy time to buy the dresses of the choice to celebrate the festival as happily as possible.
Eid shopping in the city markets seemingly gained momentum on Friday, the last weekend before the largest religious festival of the Muslims.
A large number of customers are flocking to the city markets every day to buy new dresses for their family members and near and dear ones.
The people who will leave the port city for their village homes to celebrate the Eid are buying the dresses in a bit hurry.
On the other hand, the city dwellers are waiting to buy their dresses on Chaand Raat (the night before the Eid day).
It is a tradition in Chottagram that the people of the region buy their new dresses for Eid on Chaand Raat.
Besides, some of the shopping centres and markets have already declared discounts on Eid purchases and are giving raffle draw coupons to attract customers.
A spot visit found that there has not been so much illumination in the shopping centres of the port city this Eid.
Meanwhile, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has taken special measures to maintain law and order in the port city during the upcoming Eid.
Over 800 shopping establishments and several thousand shops of the city remain jam-packed with Eid shoppers every day.
A large number of customers irrespective of male, female and children throng all the city markets to purchase their favorite dresses for Eid.
On the other hand, the framed tailoring shops in the city already stopped taking orders for shirt, pants, seloar and camiz and other gents and ladies wears after the first week of Ramadan. So, gathering at the tailoring shops in the city has declined.
The renowned markets of the city including Posh Bipani Bitan (New Market), Reazuddin Bazaar, Lucky Plaza, Southland Centre, Highway Plaza, Central Plaza, Mimi Super Market, Chottagram Shopping Complex, Apollo Shopping Centre, Bay Shopping Centre, Amin Shopping Centre, Singapore market, VIP Tower, Agrabad Shopping Centre, Chawk Bazaar and some other malls are traditionally attractive to the Eid shoppers.
Most of the customers are female who in selection of their dresses like sarees and cosmetics move from shop to shop.
Besides, Jahur Hawker Market and footpath shops are the prime locations for Eid shopping of the poor segment.
