Ctg Port handles 54,898 TEU containers during Eid holidays

CHATTOGRAM, Mar 25: A total of 54,898 TEUs of containers were handled at Chittagong port during the Eid holidays from March 17 to 23.

Of these, 28,961 TEUs were imported and 25,937 were exported. The highest number of 11,861 containers was processed on March 18. The port handled more than 2.5 million MT of cargo during the holidays.

During the period, a total of 64 ships were berthed and handled at the port. A maximum of 14 ships were handled on March 19. After the holidays, the port resumed full operations by handling 12 ships on March 23.

In the meantime, a task force was formed to ensure and monitor the supply chain of fuel oil and essential goods during the holy Ramadan and Eid holidays.

Secretary of Chittagong Port Authority Syed Reffayet Hamim said, "The Chittagong port remained open during the Eid holidays. Operational activities were suspended from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm on Eid day only. Fuel handling operations are going on smoothly to improve the supply chain."
