CHATTOGRAM, Feb 06: After a six-day halt, the operational activities at the Chittagong Port resumed on Friday as the workers suspended their strike for two days.

As a result, the loading and unloading of goods and containers from ships at the jetties and the outer anchorage, as well as the transportation of goods and containers by lorries, trucks, and prime movers, started again in the morning.

On the other hand, the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) banned its 15 employees from leaving the country.

The employees were transferred to the Mongla and Payra ports as they had protested against the decision to lease the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) of the Chittagong Port to a foreign company.

At the same time, a letter was sent to the secretary of the Ministry of Shipping to investigate their movable and immovable assets and then take action accordingly.

The letter was signed by CPA Secretary (Additional Charge) Syed Refayet Hamim on Thursday.

It requested the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the National Security Intelligence (NSI) to carry out the investigations.

The 15 employees are the coordinator of the Chittagong Port Protection Struggle Council, the coordinator of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal's Chittagong Port unit, and the coordinators of the Bandar Rokkha Sangram Oikya Parishad.

They are Md Humayun Kabir, Md Ibrahim Khokon, Md Faridur Rahman, Mohammad Shafi Uddin, Rashidul Islam, Abdullah Al Mamun, Md Zahirul Islam, Khandaker Masuduzzaman, Md Humayun Kabir, Md Shakil Raihan, Manik Mizhi, Md Shamsu Mia, Md Liaqat Ali, Aminur Rasul Bulbul, and Md Rabbani.

The letter said the 15 employees, who were involved in anti-state activities and creating anarchy in the name of the recent movement at the Chittagong Port, were transferred to the Mongla and Payra ports on February 2.

It further said an investigation was currently underway against these errant employees.

The labour leaders at the Chittagong Port announced the two-day suspension of the strike following negotiations with the shipping adviser.
