Ctg Ring Road opens to traffic fully next month

CHATTOGRAM, Nov 24: Construction of the Coastal Road, popularly known as Ring Road, with an updated design is almost complete now. It will fully open to traffic after inauguration of the 'Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel' next month.

The authority has constructed a platform point at the junction of the Bangabandhu tunnel and the Ring Road at Patenga in this regard. On opening of the Ring Road, communication of Chattogram with other districts will be smoother. The Ring Road will also protect the Chattogram EPZ, Karnaphuli EPZ, Chittagong Port, Shah Amanat International Airport, Naval and Air Force's establishments and other key establishments as well as the people of the area from natural calamities including tidal surge and cyclone.

Besides, the pressure of traffic on Chattogram city will ease significantly and industries, especially the tourism industry, flourish further. The Ring Road is extended to connect with the Mirerswari Economic Zone (MEZ).

Project Director and also Chief Engineer of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Kazi Hasan Bin Shams said, "More than 95 per cent work of Ring Road has already been completed."

He said, "We have changed the design of Ring Road considering the connectivity with MEZ. Now, we are extending the Ring Road to Bhatiari to MEZ. The work on the extended part of the road is continuing now."

The CDA implemented the Tk 14.96 billion Coastal Road
