Centre for Zakat Management (CZM) has handed over the 5th Genius Scholarship to its recipients at a function in the city recently.
CEO of CZM Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah presided over the function, said a press release.
Chairman of CZM Niaz Rahim, former Secretary Dr Mahbubur Rahman, Executive Director of Shanta Properties Mohammad Mujibur Rahman and eminent scholar from South Africa Sheikh Bilal Ismail were present at the function as the guests of honour.
The scholarship was launched for the disadvantaged but meritorious undergraduate students of the public universities and medical colleges.
A total of 193 students of various institutions including Dhaka University, Jagannath University, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (Duet), Dhaka Medical College, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University were awarded the scholarship.
Under the scholarship, every student will get Tk 3000 per month for a period of two years.
In his address, the chairman said the CZM works with the objective of removing poverty from the country by preparing the young generation utilising Zakat fund through institutional management of the same.
Apart from awarding scholarship, the CZM arranges various motivational and training programmes like career planning, time management, stress management, leadership development, mind control and self development to help the students become competitive and worthy citizens of the country.
CZM has been providing the scholarship since 2010 with Zakat money paid by various corporate organisations and individuals.
