DBI begins diploma on supply chain management

DCCI Business Institute (DBI) has started the 15th batch of the international certificate/diploma course on supply chain management intended to improve private sector officials' efficiency in supply chain.

The course "Modular Learning System in Supply Chain Management (MLS-SCM)" is being conducted jointly by the DBI and the International Trade Centre (ITC) in Geneva.

Mohammad Shahjahan Khan, president of the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony held at the DCCI auditorium in the city Friday.

The function was attended, among others, by the trainers of DBI, and over 80 trainees, said a press release.

Md Hossain Ali, executive director of DBI presented a multimedia presentation on the course at the opening session.

In his presentation, Mr Ali highlighted the importance of effective purchasing and supply chain management for a business organisation to become competitive in the both local and global markets.

The diploma course covers 18 modules, which deal with the management of whole supply chain of a business starting from procurement of raw materials and other inputs, operations management and marketing etc upto the customer relationship management.

The course is beneficial not only to the company for improving, among others, its image, competitiveness, profitability and growth by reducing lead time and cost of purchasing, but also to the professionals for their career development, officials said.

Aside from providing traditional services to its members, Mr Khan said, DCCI has been providing multifarious services for the development of private sector in Bangladesh.

In order to meet the growing demand for training services of the business community, DBI has been conducting more than 70 short training courses/workshops yearly, professional BBA (honours) course under the National University, and International certificate/diploma course in MLS-SCM, he said.
