Jinnat Knitwears Limited, a concern of DBL Group, received 'CPI2 top factory award 2013-2014' Sunday for their excellent efforts in reducing energy consumption in its factory operations.
CPI2 (Carbon Performance Improvement Initiative) project is an initiative by the German-based retailers supported by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment and the German Investment and Development Company.
CPI2 high official Mr Norbert Jungmichel handed over the certificate and crest of the prestigious award through a formal programme held at the BGMEA (Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association) complex in the capital.
Among others, BGMEA President Atiqul Islam, DBL Group Chairman Abdul Wahed and Managing Director Mohammed Abdul Jabbar spoke at the award-giving ceremony.
The CPI official said they selected the Bangladeshi company for its strong commitment to reducing environmental impact on the factory operations.
A total of 14 companies from five countries including Bangladesh had applied for the international award and the Jinnat Knitwears Limited secured the top position, the official said.
Mr Islam lauded the award-winning company saying that it will certainly inspire the whole garment sector.  
The CPI2 is an initiative of retailers and brands aiming to be front-runners in climate protection. It supports manufacturers to use energy more efficiently.
