Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will start training next month-part of its effort to create 2,000 new entrepreneurs, said the chief of the trade body.

"We will start training for creating new 2000 entrepreneurs from March to help make them self-reliant and to contribute to the national economy," President of DCCI Mohammad Shahjahan Khan told the FE Saturday. He said that the trade body is getting positive responses from the promising entrepreneurs.

"We have received 1,600 applications from the entrepreneurs so far.  They have submitted their projects profiles. We are scrutinising their applications," he said.

He said that DCCI is getting applications from the entrepreneurs. Many organisations have expressed interests to cooperate with DCCI regarding the training programme. DCCI is getting cooperation from the central bank about the training programme.

He said that Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Training Institute (BSCITI) will train the new entrepreneurs. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) will assist the training programme.  In the first phase, 200 selected applicants will get training.

The DCCI's move will give the new entrepreneurs a platform, guideline and much-needed financing to implement their innovative projects. Besides, the entrepreneurs will learn how to start a business, export and import formalities, how to apply for bank loan and marketing of their products etc.

It is estimated that 0.5 million students graduate from public and private universities each year and enter the job market. And the DCCI's initiatives will create new entrepreneurs and thus provide employment to them.

The initiative will give priority to innovative and creative ideas from any sector. Besides, ideas in education, health, infrastructure and communications, renewable energy, fashion designing, handicraft, environment and waste management, IT, outsourcing, e-commerce, electronics and light engineering and agro-based products will get focus.

"DCCI's move to hunt new entrepreneurs will create a strong network of businesses. The network will help them overcome barriers to doing businesses and develop their capacity," Mr Khan.

DCCI and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) arranged a workshop recently for creating 200 information technology (IT) freelancers aiming to bring them under the trade body's ongoing project for creating 2,000 entrepreneurs.

The young IT freelancers will get all support from DCCI to register their business.
