DCCI, BUET join hands to face challenges

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) and Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET) signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on Monday virtually. Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), aiming at skill development to meet up challenges of the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
DCCI President Rizwan Rahman and BUET ViceChancellor Prof Satya Prasad Majumder signed the MoC on behalf of their respective organisations. The signing ceremony was held virtually.
According to the MoC, both DCCI and BUET will work together to combat the 4IR challenges through skill development as well as to arrange joint research, seminars, webinars, job fairs, business meetings and model developments.
DCCI President Rizwan Rahman said that BUET had been contributing a lot to the country's technological and infrastructural development since its inception.
"Whether it is a matter of any mega infrastructure or disaster management issue, BUET always extends its forerunner role," he said.
He also put high emphasis on developing innovative technologies and sector-specific research as per the demand of the country's industrial sector.
He also said that industry-academia collaboration like this one would foster skill development as per the needs of the industries.
"Considering the need of 4IR, it is the best time to take the initiative of re-skilling and up-skilling our workforce," he added.
BUET Vice Chancellor Prof Satya Prasad Majumder said Bangladesh was going to be a developing nation with an industrial advancement.
For this, "we have to prepare ourselves"to identify the problems of the industrial sector and ensure wider use of innovative technology and research, he said.
Prof Majumder said the university would also focus on industrial demand-driven research.
And for this, he requested DCCI to share relevant data with BUET.
He also said students' integration with the industry was necessary for their skill up-gradation.
DCCI Senior Vice President N K A Mobin, FCS, FCA, Vice President Monowar Hossain, and BUET ProViceChancellor Prof Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan, among others, were also present.
