DCCI holds meeting with diplomats tomorrow

The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will hold a meeting with the foreign diplomats in Dhaka tomorrow (Saturday) aiming to increase Bangladesh exports in different countries, said the chief of the trade body.
The government has set the export target at US$ 30.50 billion for the current fiscal year (FY) 2013-14. The country exported goods worth $27.02 billion in the FY 2012-13. From July to April of the current fiscal year, the country exported goods worth $27.02 billion, according to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Bangladesh exports its products to nearly two hundred countries. The main exportable items are ready-made garment (RMG) products, pharmaceuticals, jute and jute goods, leather and leather goods, shrimps etc.   
"We are going to hold a meeting with the diplomats of different embassies/high commissions in Dhaka to exchange views about increasing bilateral trade with them," DCCI president Mohammad Shahjahan Khan told the FE Thursday.
The meeting titled 'Improving Exports: Impor-ting Country's Perspective' will be held at DCCI office on May 10, 2014.
Mr Khan said the ambassadors, high commissioners and commercial counsellors of different diplomatic missions in Bangladesh are expected to be present at the discussion meeting. They would present their papers on the above-mentioned subject, he added.
He said the meeting would provide an opportunity to the local entrepreneurs to exchange views with the diplomats about the quality of the country's products and their price competitiveness.
He laid emphasis on publicity on increasing exports as the products of the country have huge demand in many countries.
"We take the initiative to increase our exports considering their existing potential in different countries," Mr Khan said.
