DCCI suggests taking up projects under PPP

FE Report | March 09, 2015 00:00:00

Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) placed on Sunday some recommendations to the government including taking up projects under public-private partnership (PPP) to ensure proper waste management for sustainable development in the country.

They also called upon the government to take a long-term 'green technology plan' and draw up a 'national environment plan' considering the country's vulnerability to climate change for which the developed nations are largely responsible.

The recommendations were handed over by President of DCCI Hossain Khaled when the board of directors of the trade body called on Environment and Forest Minister Anwar Hossain Manju at the conference room of the ministry.

The president of the DCCI led the members of the trade body.

The other recommendations of DCCI are inspection of industries by the officials of the department of environment in every three months, taking realistic steps for issuing environment clearance and improving the air quality, taking steps to set up effluent treatment plants (ETP) under PPP and setting up central ETP at every industrial zone with government assistance, providing 'green certificate' to the entrepreneurs who contribute to protecting the environment, strengthening drive against indiscriminate use of polythene and taking steps to save the rivers Buriganga, Turag and Shitalakkhya from environmental pollution.

The environment minister called upon the businessmen to come forward for protecting the environment. He, however, assured the DCCI delegation of considering their recommendations.

Senior Vice-President (VP) of DCCI Humayun Rashid and VP Md Shoaib Chowdhury and Directors Mohammad Shahjahan Khan, K Atique-E-Rabbani, FCA, Md Sabur Khan, Abdus Salam and AKD Khair Mohammad Khan, among others, were present.
