The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) will hold an international conference in the capital at the end of this month to encourage increased local and foreign investment inflow in the country.

Local and foreign dignitaries and businessmen will attend the event styled as 'Destination Bangladesh' to be held on October 28.

The trade body is now preparing to make the daylong programme a success.

"We are going to hold the event to encourage local and foreign investors to invest more in Bangladesh," DCCI president Abul Kasem Khan told the FE.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to attend the event as the chief guest, he said.

The event will mark the 60th founding anniversary of DCCI, he added.

The daylong event will be divided into six sessions, featuring seminar, discussion and business-to-business meeting.

Some 42 local and foreign speakers will deliver speeches on investment opportunities in Bangladesh.

Mr Kasem said the DCCI is making continuous efforts to promote more local and foreign investment under the investment-friendly policy of the government.

"The country has no alternative but to attract local and foreign investments to become a middle-income country," he said.

Admitting that there are some infrastructure bottlenecks, the DCCI president urged the government to develop road, railways and waterways and modernise the ports.

Meanwhile, a high official of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) told the FE that they are providing one-stop service (fast and swift) to prospective local and foreign investors.
