DCCI urges govt to establish more economic zones

The government has been urged to establish more economic zones in different parts of the country.
DCCI President Mohammad Shahjahan Khan made the appeal while members of the board of directors of DCCI led by him called on Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, MP, in the city Sunday, said a press release.
The DCCI president also laid emphasis on SME development, ship building, ship breaking, mordenisation of BSTI, establishing an Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredient (API) Industrial Area, ensuring energy and gas connection to industries, preservation of local industries and reducing cost of doing businesses.
The DCCI president further urged the government not to impose tax on imported raw materials for local industry like finished products.
He said that our entrepreneurs have invested their money in industries with heavy machineries but they can not go into production because of shortage of gas connection.
If it continues, our industrialisation and employment generation will be hampered, he said.
He also laid emphasis on providing gas, electricity and utility connection in industries on priority basis.
Mr Khan stressed the need for coordination among BCIC, BSEC, BSTI, BSCIC, BAB and DPDT for better functioning.
He said that inter-ministerial coordination meeting and meeting between entrepreneurs and financial institutions are important to reduce cost of doing business and take immediate measures.
In reply, the minister said that the government is committed to maintain business-friendly environment in the country.  He said that it is in government's active consideration to increase existing economic zones.
The industries minister said that BISCIC Industrial area will be increased based on the demand of industrial plots.
He also said that the government will discuss with the local business leaders to find out solutions for allotting sick industrial plots.
He told the DDCI leaders that the government is working on infrastructure development in the areas having tourism potentials.
The minister called upon all to use jute and goods to promote this sector.
He said that Indian businessmen are keen to invest in Bangladesh. In this connection, the minister said if Dhaka Chamber shows interest to send a trade delegation in India, the Indian business community will fully co-operate Bangladesh trade team.
He said international tender will be called for exploration of gas in the deep sea area soon.
Among others, Industries Secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, DCCI Senior Vice President Osama Taseer and Vice President Kh. Shahidul Islam, directors Abul Hossain, Haider Ahmed Khan, FCA, Md Iftekharuddin (Naushad), Humayun Rashid, Md Sabur Khan, Rizwan Ur Rahman, Muktar Hossain Chowdhury, S Rumi Saifullah, Hossain A Sikder, Md Shoaib Choudhury and AKD Khair Mohammad Khan were present during the meeting.
