A two-day International denim trade show will kick off in the city on November 11 next aiming to help flourish the denim sector.
Denim Expert Limited will organise "Bangladesh Denim Expo" to popularise the Bangladesh brand through making it 'One Stop Sourcing Platform' for denim fabric exporters.
"Our primary purpose is to create a platform for Denim producers with which all will be benefitted," Managing Director of Denim Expert Ltd Mostafiz Uddin said while addressing a press conference held in the city Saturday.
Terming the initiative a non-profitable one, he said "We expect denim goods from Bangladesh to yield greater brand value in the global market through this exhibition".
Plenary sessions and seminars will also be held on trends of denim goods and washing during the expo, organisers said.
They expressed the hope that the expo would give a boost to Bangladesh's denim sector by generating huge quantity of export orders from UK, German, Spain, Holland, Italy, France and USA.
Bangladesh is the second largest exporter of denim fabric to Europe and third largest in the USA, Mr Mustafiz said adding but there is no such exposition, workshop or training to develop the sector.
"Such exhibitions take place in France, Italy and Spain. And this is for Bangladesh is organising the exhibition to facilitate transfer of technology and knowhow about the current trends and fashions," he said.
About 25 denim fabric manufacturers produce 20 million yards per month. They meet 40 per cent of the local demand while rest 60 per cent is met through import.
During the last expo, about 11 foreign companies participated in the expo while organisers are expecting participants from Italy, India, Pakistan, Turkey and Srilanka this time. They also expect visitors from European Union.
The 'invite only' event will have 29 stalls that showcase denim pants, fabrics and modern machinery.
MS Hasan, Director of PARTEX group, Kamal Uddin, Managing director of Raymotex Corporation and Sohel Rana, Director of Nassa Group were also present on the occasion.
