Bangladesh has a very favourable environment and policies for foreign investments and Turkey can tap such opportunities.
This was observed by Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while leading a delegation of Bangladesh in a meeting of Bangladesh-Turkey Joint Economic Commission in Istanbul, Turkey, on Thursday, according to a dispatch received in Dhaka.
The planning minister is leading the delegation of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Planning to Turkey and the UK which started on Jan 25 and will continue till Jan 31.
The objective of the visit by the delegation is to observe public procurement systems of Turkey and the United Kingdom and acquire practical experiences about the systems prevailing in the two countries with special importance on digitisation of their procurement procedures.
The international exposure visit has been organised under the auspices of the World Bank-financed Digitisation Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPPP). It is now being implemented by Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division, Ministry of Planning.
Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey and Chairman, Bangladesh-Turkey Joint Economic Commission, Bekir Bozdag led the Turkish side.
The Bangladesh planning minister also discussed the issue of Rohingya people who have taken shelter inside Bangladesh to save their lives from atrocities committed by Myanmar military.
The Turkish DPM appreciated the socio-economic progress achieved by Bangladesh and expressed Turkish interest in further exploring business opportunities in the country.
On January 26, the Bangladesh delegation was briefed about role, structure and functions of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), overview of public procurement system and e-procurement in Turkey.
The Bangladesh delegation comprising members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Planning also includes Md Faruque Hossain, Director General of CPTU.
