Bangladesh and India have discussed ways to further promote and facilitate trade between the two neighbouring countries.

Improvement of infrastructural facilities, including installation of testing and warehouse facilities in all the 16 land ports along the border of the two countries also came up for discussion at the 10th meeting of the Joint Group of Customs (JGC) held in New Delhi, said a Foreign Ministry media release on Thursday, reports UNB.

Member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) M Farid Uddin led the Bangladesh delegation while Director General of Indian Directorate of Revenue Intelligence Najib Shah led the home side.

They also took several decisions to remove administrative complexities and operational barriers for quicker passage of goods through the ports.

From now on, India and Bangladesh will share intelligence information to prevent smuggling of goods and narcotics.

It was also decided that the standards organisations of India and Bangladesh will meet soon to sort out unresolved standardisation issues between the two countries.
