Dhaka pins high hopes on Dubai expo

The Bangladesh Pavilion at the upcoming World Expo 2020 Dubai would not only help promote Bangladeshi products abroad but also brighten the country's image, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said on Monday.
The commerce minister said this while speaking at a press conference at his Secretariat office on the occasion of Dubai expo.
Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh, Additional Secretary (Export) Md. Hafizur Rahman, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman A.H.M. Ahsan, Joint Secretary Md. Abdur Rahim Khan and other senior officials of the ministry were present at the event.
The World Expo is scheduled to start on October 01 next. The six-month expo will continue until March 31 next with the organisers expecting nearly 25 million visitors.
The exhibition title of the Bangladesh pavilion is "Indomitable Bangladesh: Towards Sustainable Development."
During the expo, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities will be observed on December 03, 2021.
The 16th December, 2021 will be observed as the "Country Day. The International Mother Language Day will be observed on February 21, 2022.
Birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be celebrated on March 17, 2022, according to a commerce ministry document.
International Women's Day (March 08, 2022) and Independence Day of Bangladesh (March 26, 2022) will also be observed during the expo. Different sectors of the country are expected to showcase their products in the World Expo 2020.
Different government and private agencies will also take part in the upcoming event.
Besides, leather sector companies would display their leather and leather goods such as bag, belt, laptop bag, shoe, jacket and handbag at the international event, an official of the ministry said.
