The 20th Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF 2015) will end today (Tuesday), officials said.
Commerce Minister Tofael Ahmed will be present as the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the 40-daylong fair in the afternoon, said Shuvashis Bose, Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) vice-chairman.
Most of the participating companies said they could not fulfil their trading targets in DITF, as the ongoing countrywide hartal-blockade hits the fair hard.
They said this year their sales and orders have dropped nearly by 70 per cent compared with those of the previous year due to poor number of visitors in the fair.
The companies said this year they counted huge loss though the government extended the month-long fair by 10 days, following the participants' demand.
According to DITF office, with Bangladesh, some 14 countries, including India, Pakistan, China, Malaysia, Iran, Thailand, USA, Turkey, Singapore, Australia, Britain, UAE, South Korea and Germany, showcased their items in the fair.
The local and international participants displayed a wide range of products, including textile and garments, leather and leather goods, footwear, machinery, pharmaceuticals, carpets, chemical and allied products, cosmetics and beauty aids, dairy products, electrical and electronics items, food stuff, gift and novelty items, handicrafts, household appliances, furniture, building materials, sports goods, sanitary ware, toys and stationery, watches and jewellery.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the fair on the first day of 2015 at a ceremony at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. It was scheduled to end on January 31.
