Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will begin its drive against formalin-mixed fruits and other food items from Wednesday night, reports BSS.
"DMP will set up eight checkpoints at all entry points to Dhaka so that no formalin-mixed food items including fruits and fishes can enter the capital," DMP Commissioner Benazir Ahmed told newsmen at DMP media centre Sunday noon.
The eight checkpoints will be at Postogola Bridge, Signboard under Jatrabari police station, Demra Crossing (western side of Sultana Kamal Bridge under Demra thana), Babubazar Bridge, Sadarghat and Wiseghat, in front of Parbat Cinema Hall at Gabtoli, Abdullahpur Bridge and Dhour Bridge.
"We will take this step to enable the city dwellers to have poison-free fruits and other things," he added.
Benazir also sought cooperation from all including common people, honest businessmen and patriotic citizens to make the drive successful.
Executive magistrates and representatives of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) will assist the DMP teams in the drive, said a DMP press release.
