DNCRP fines 29 businesses


A government agency fined 29 businesses across the country on Sunday on charges of violating consumers' rights.
Of them, seven businesses were fined in the capital city, according to a statement issued by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP).
A team led by DNCRP Deputy Director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar conducted drives in the city's Mirpur-2 and Shyamoli areas.
They fined an eatery, 'Grass Root Café', Tk 0.4 million for preparing food in an unhygienic condition, selling date-expired food items and attaching the maximum retail price (MRP) tag to some items.
Four transport operators namely MR Enterprise, SP Golden Line, Sundarban Express and Royal Coach were also fined Tk 20,000 each, as they were selling bus tickets at higher prices and not showing price list publicly.
The team also fined Supreme Diners Restaurant Tk 50,000 and a super shop Tk 0.15 million.
