DoE slaps Tk 4.3m fines on seven factories

The Department of Environment (DoE) on Sunday fined seven factories over Tk 4.3 million for polluting the environment in Savar and Gazipur. Following hearings at the DoE headquarters in the city, its Director (Monitoring and Enforcement) slapped the fine on the factories on different charges, said a DoE handout. The factories -- two in Savar and five in Gazipur -- had been releasing untreated liquid effluents, causing damage to the environment and ecology. The factories were set up and being run without any environmental clearance and permission. — UNB
